You Think You Know Nigeria? was conceived by GistMe, with the principal aim of using entertainment to educate and inform Nigerians. Partnering with Radio Nigeria’s Network which covers the whole country through 32 FM,MW and SW stations, You Think You Know Nigeria? helps people know Nigeria better
while having fun with the jazzy nature of its presentation.
You Think You Know Nigeria? is part of the Radio Nigeria’s culture of quality
programming, responsible and responsive development of the nation’s human resources and knowledge of the country and its history. You Think You Know Nigeria? quiz involves several stages of participation and winnings. The daily quiz is a lead question asked every hour on Radio Nigeria’s 30 plus stations nationwide; contestants send in their answers via phone SMS; from among the numerous correct answers a winner is picked by electronic/computer draw; daily winning is N5, 000 which is sent to the winner through First Inland Bank’s Flash Cash.
The next stage, the weekly quiz takes place at FRCN headquarters’ studio in Abuja. Two of the daily winners are selected and invited to Abuja to participate in the Saturday finale show; their travel and lodging expenses are paid for. For the highly entertaining 30 minutes show, the two contestants slug it out and a winner emerges. The winner goes home with a N50, 000 cash prize.
Naturally, it requires a strong technological base to pull off such a programme.
GistMe, the originators of the programme have had a track record of providing ICT platforms for broadcast, new media and other telecommunications uses. They have been focused on the use of mobile handsets in providing services in the area of information access, messaging platform, entertainment, and business software applications. At the media launch in September, GistMe’s CEO, Emeka Ken Nwabueze, noted with pride the immense strides of the programme since his company’s partnership with Radio Nigeria. He described it as a “Public-private partnership aimed at creating and promoting content for Radio Nigeria”.
According to Nwabueze, “Never has something this large a scale been done involving a private production company and a public entity”. The investment in terms of time and money, he said rivals that of any major TV production in the country. For the FRCN, the programme joins an array of others helping it fulfill its role as a public service broadcaster whose mandate is: “Uplifting the people and Uniting the nation”.
Mr. Egbuna stressed this point when he noted that the joint venture with GistMe is “an epitome of partnership that works".
